Ted Greene – Online “Memory Book”

29 01 2007

DSS Unlimited has had the distinct pleasure to be asked to build an Online “Memory Book” for  Ted Greene’s Tribute Website.

Ted Greene Memory Book

It was an exciting project to work on and was all done in Flash, there are about 30 pages in the book and each page shows intimate moments of Ted with many of his friends, family and of course… plenty of guitar pictures…
There is also an rare, exclusive recording of Ted playing. Make sure to turn up your speakers!

Dan Sindel’s – “Handel’s Messiah” Lights up the switchboard!

DanSindel
(LOL, old news is still good news, this is from the archives over at http://www.boycott-riaa.com/article/19412 )

Dan Sindel’s latest Demo CD “Excerpts From Handel’s Messiah” received airplay on BayFM 99.9 Community Radio, Byron Bay, Australia and listeners lit up the switchboard calling in for a chance to win a copy of the CD..!

As the climatic guitars of the “Hallelujah Chorus” came to a crescendo, surprisingly the station had to break away for the National News but upon return Karena (the Host) apologized with a little laughter and had announced the phones had rung “off the hook” (as if this event did not happen very often) with folks wanting to be added to the weekly drawing and win Dan’s demo CD as a giveaway..! On Air personalities Peter & Karena Wynn-Moylan host the popular show “Arts Canvass” every Thursday at 9am -11am. Keeping you up to date with all regional (Byron Bay, NSW, AU) arts news and info.

“Excerpts From Handel’s Messiah” is now available in various podcast formats…

Dan Sindel at NAMM 2007

NAMM07NAMM 2007

Once again I was fortunate enough to attend Winter NAMM at the Anaheim Convention Center from Jan 18 -21.
Needless to say it was a blast and I met many top-flight musicians and industry insiders and met up with friends that I have not seen in awhile. I was very excited as I was able to attend Muriel Anderson’s ALL STAR GUITAR NIGHT and see such great guitarists as Johnny Hiland, Dick Dale, Paul Reed Smith and countless others perform as well as attending a tribute for Dimebag Darrel sponsored by Coffin Case, GHS Strings, Dean Guitars & Marshall Amps which had many friends of Dime playing onstage including  Lemmy of Motorhead, members of: Alice Cooper, Alice In Chains, Black Label Society and more…

This years show was ‘off the hook’ and I fell in love with many new products and got to try them out first hand and speak with the representatives of the companies who manufacture the products as well as foster relationships with these fine folks…

As usual I spent many hours putting together a few hundred Demo CD’s to pass out amongst the industry and thought it would be good fun to share a few of these photos of me in the “CD factory” mode prior to attending the show…

Making Maggie..!

3 01 2007

This is the story of “Maggie”…

One of my most favorite guitars in my collection hand built by Willy (Willy’s Custom Guitars) and I. This is a story I have been wanting to tell for quite some time but for some reason never got a ‘round tuit’ (now that I have started this blog there are no more excuses… LOL)

Over the past year or two as folks have watched my poor little “low quality webcam videos” either on GoogleVideo, YouTube or my website, many people have asked me “What kind of Guitar is that?”…

Maggie - www.dansindel.usMaggie started out as a ‘concept’ for one of my defunct heavy metal projects that never really got off the ground circa 1994. I designed the body shape on my old Apple Macintosh 2si (remember those? 4MB of Ram, 80MB HD…boy have we come along way!) using one of the first versions of what was Aldus Freehand v.4 which of course now is Macromedia, which is now Adobe (or something like that)…

Maggie - www.dansindel.usFirst, we created a template using plywood and went out and bought a nice, thick blank of Mahogany for about $60 and the template was affixed to the Mahogany blank to prepare the wood to go under the band saw.

Next was a bit of sanding and shaping of the body, what I loved most about this phase is how Willy contoured the back of the guitar similar to a Fender Strat so it was very comfortable to play while standing up.

After the body was shaped just right, it was time to seal the wood and prep for the paint. the original plan was to go for some kind of a Candy Apple paint job and after puting down a few coats of Ditzler Silver Primer it looked so good “as is” that we decided that this was where Maggie will remain…

Once the paint dried it was time to put Maggie together, I had some parts left over from a “previous” custom guitar. The neck is a Warmouth Neck (sorry, not sure of the exact make or model) and the pickup is a hand wound Dan Armstrong with something like 128 individual pole pieces and the bridge is a Leo Quann “Badass” .
